A Lilly Retreat for Furman Alumni
“What’s Calling You Now?”
July 29 – August 1, 2010
Furman University
Are you contemplating a life transition or just looking for a fresh perspective? Join Furman alumni of all ages and stages in life to share wisdom, intellectual stimulation, fun, friends and transformation—in other words, the best of what you remember about life at Furman!
The Lilly Center for Vocational Reflection will offer its third alumni retreat this summer. All interested Furman alumni are eligible, but spaces are limited and reservations required. The conference will be held on campus July 29-August 1, beginning with dinner on Thursday evening and ending with lunch on Sunday. Participants will be housed in the North Village apartments and meals will be provided on campus (with the exception of one night out in Greenville’s amazing new downtown).
Speakers and leaders for the various sessions of the retreat will be Furman faculty members. A special set of “master lectures” called Dreaming Dreams; Living Life will include as speakers: John Crabtree (Professor of English and Academic Dean Emeritus), David Rutledge (Professor of Religion), Margaret Oakes (Professor of English) and new Associate Academic Dean Paula Gabbert (Professor of Computer Science). These promise to be engaging and inspiring personal stories.
The theme of What’s Calling You Now? for 2010 will be “Simpler Living; Radical Change,” in keeping with a current faculty seminar. Participants will learn about some of the new ideas in sustainability and will consider practical lifestyle changes that promote personal and planetary well-being. During break-out sessions, there will be opportunities for participants to learn about and engage in meditational practices (in the new Place of Peace), nutritional practices, and the spiritual practice of pilgrimage. The cost for the long weekend (includes room, board, and registration) is $295.
Inquiries and reservations may be made by contacting ann.quattlebaum@furman.edu or calling 864-294-2511.
